Autumn fieldtrip to the Lizard ophiolite sheeted dyke complex

1pm, Sunday 13th September, an Autumn fieldtrip to Leggan Cove on the Lizard.  Leader Prof Kathryn Moore, Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter.

 We have looked at the mantle-crust boundary at Coverack and the gabbros at Dean Quarry in recent fieldtrips. Now lets continue our journey up the intrusive sequence into the dyke complex… At Leggan Cove, we will see gabbros cut by multiple generations of dykes. We can spend some time looking at chilled margins and rock textures to resolve the order of intrusion. There’s lots to see!

There is very limited parking near the coast path so the group will meet at 1pm at Porthoustock car park, TR12 6QW (honour pay system, toilets available). It will take 30 minutes to walk from the car park to Leggan Cove. The walking will be easy to, and on, the beach, with a slightly more strenuous incline on the way out of the car park. We will be able to organise 1 or 2 cars from Porthoustock for those who need assistance to avoid the 30 minute walk to the site.  The fieldtrip is free for members, £5 fee for members, payment details are on the registration form.
