Jackie received the William Smith Medal of the Geological Society of London in 2024 and gave the prestigious 18th Glossop Lecture of the Engineering Group of the Geological Society a few years ago. She is a member of the RGSC and lives in Penzance.
Abstract: Understanding the principles of what makes geology variable is vital to the safe and successful undertaking of all civil engineering projects. Yet investment in quality ground investigation continues to be underfunded given the hazards and expense that can result. Jacqui will be addressing how basic preconceptions contribute to misunderstandings about geology, and give examples of how communicating how ground variability happens improves project-wide understanding and can save money!
